Job Summary
College Medical Center Long Beach is seeking experienced Emergency Room (ER) Charge Registered Nurses to join our team. The ER Charge Nurse is responsible for providing leadership and supervision to the nursing staff, ensuring safe and efficient patient care delivery. Responsibilities include coordinating admissions and discharges, delegating assignments, overseeing patient care, and managing inventory and medical supply ordering. The Charge Nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure adherence to established policies, standards of practice, and patient safety protocols.
Required Qualifications:
- Current California RN License.
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification upon hire.
- CPI Certification within 30 days of hire.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in an ER or psychiatric inpatient setting.
- Knowledge of age-specific patient care requirements and growth/development principles.
- Strong communication, delegation, and leadership skills.
Job-Specific Duties:
- Assign and supervise nursing staff, ensuring appropriate care for all patients.
- Oversee patient admissions, discharges, and transfers in the ER.
- Coordinate and participate in patient care activities, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Monitor inventory and order medical supplies as needed.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation in accordance with legal and hospital standards.
- Implement interdisciplinary treatment plans and adjust as patient needs evolve.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment, adhering to all hospital policies and procedures.

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for CHLB/CMC including but not limited to shift differential and other special pay practices, etc. The posted compensation for the position is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay that CHLB/CMC in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting.
